USDOT number requirements
The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) requires commercial vehicles to have USDOT decal stickers that meet the following requirements:
- Location: The decal must be applied to both sides of the vehicle, usually on the cab doors. It should not be applied to removable parts like the trailer or fuel tank covers.
- Size: The numbers must be at least 2 inches tall.
- Visibility: The numbers must be readable from 50 feet away during daylight hours.
- Color: The numbers should be in a single color. The numbers must be a contrasting color to the vehicle's surface, such as black numbers on a white truck.
- Font: The numbers should be in a plain, bold, and easy-to-read font.
- Durability: The decal must be permanently attached to the vehicle, not magnetic or taped on.
Motor carriers and drivers are responsible for knowing and complying with all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
